Is life a dream? Going through the names here and remembering, I could imagine such a thing. My high school years weren't my happiest ones, nor my most miserable. Some of the people I attended North with went all the way back to grade school. It's disturbing to find old friends on the "dead" list, but also inevitable. Equally disturbing to not see names I'd like to see on the "live" list. Everybody is going to be a hell of a lot more decrepit than I'd like. Especially me! But briefly: I went to KU, got a journalism degree, started on Texas newspapers, ended up on California newspapers. Got sick of the biz after about 10 years; hunted an alternative for another 10; took still another 10-plus to make it work. And now I run waterheaterrescue.com, the bizarre confluence of plumbing and journalism. Somewhere in there, I had my midlife crisis: quit my job, sold my house, took three years out from journalism. Part of that involved going to Europe. I spent six months in Avignon, studying French and living with a French family; then three months each in Perugia and Rome, studying Italian; then two months each in Seville and Granada, studying Spanish. Then I ran out of money and had to come home. I'm now in my second childhood: MUCH more fun than the first. I went to racing school last year and got an SCCA racing license. Not sure what I'll do with it, but I'll race sooner or later, although more likely in BMW Club events or in the Skip Barber series. Probably won't win, but that's not the point; just to be doing it. No wife, no children; just an Irish setter puppy who likes to chew on my hand.  Send Randy a MessageSend Randy a Message

Hi Everyone,
I enjoyed seeing a lot of you at the tour this morning and hopefully more of the class of '69 tonight at Sue's. I want to thank the one's who planned our 40th reunion.
I have been retired now for a few years due to several health problems. In 1990 I was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (my mother and brother both passed away with this). The only problem that I had for awhile was high blood pressure. In 2006 I was admitted to the hospital twice within 2 months for severe constipation. On the 2nd visit they discovered that my colon was enlarged and wasn't functioning so they removed most of my colon and appendix (I guess they decided to give me a 2 for 1 deal) and now I have an Ileostomy. Then in 2007 I was being evaluated to see if I could be put on the kidney transplant list. On one of my test, my PSA came back slightly high and was told that I had stage 1 of Prostate Cancer. I feel VERY fortunate that they had discovered this early. I did 8 weeks of radiation therapy. After a year and a half I am cancer free. In November of this year if my PSA is still low, they can put me on the transplant list. I have been on dialysis 3 days a week since Feb. of 2008.
Thought that I would let you all know what has been going on.
Later, Ken Shutt

As of 7-16-10, I have finally been put on the kidney transplant list. YEA!!!!!!!   They said it would be a 1-2 year wait but that's ok.  At least I'm on the transplant list. I'll keep you all posted.
Later, Ken
P.S. I was thrilled to hear that they found Larry and he was alright. Prayers do help!!!

What a great job all the organizers have done!  Bravo!  I love this web site.  I won't be able to attend so decided to write some information in hopes of reconnecting.  I met my true love, Gary Sloan, at a Black Oak Arkansas concert at Cowtown Ballroom; been married 36 years.  Two sons, both grown, on their own but neither married, yet.  One in Seattle, one in Seoul, Korea.  Moved back here 15 years ago & am currently teaching art at Prairie Elementary in the Village.  Hope to retire soon.  What a great fun time is planned; wish I could attend!

After graduating from SMN I served two years in the Marines. After returning from Vietnam I went on to receive AA, BA and Masters degrees. I spent 29 years with the Federal Bureau of Prisons retiring in 2005. During this time I married my wife Paula and we have two daughters and four grandchildren. Paula works two days a week and we enjoy spending time together and with our grandchildren. Looking forward to our 50th year reunion. Send Joseph a MessageSend Joseph a Message

I hope all of you are doing well.  If anyone wants to write, I would be glad to hear from you and I will respond.  It's good to see all the names again and those of you who have included current pictures.  I have a "crummy" selfie included in case any of you are curious about how I've changed.  Some years ago I ran into Susie Silks at the KU Med Center where I was working at the time.  Seeing that she has passed is sad and I'm glad I had the opportunity to talk to her again.  Take Care. How do we breakdown 40 years onto a few sentences?  I've been married for 37 years ,have 2 kids who are now 34 and 35,  and 5 grandkids who are the highlight of our life, so far! My husband, Ken, retired at age 54 to spend more time in overseas mission work. He now speaks all over the country about retirement and Social Security. I had the best job in the world (for me) as a hospice nurse and I miss it dearly. We have raised canaries for  10 years and presently have about 100 birds. We sell and show them. I am thankful for Jesus, Ken, our kids and grandkids. I'm really excited to see everyone, although I won't remember anyone's name!
I hope this reunion will be different than the 10th in that as 50+ in years, we are more comfortable in our skins and selves. The 10th reunion felt about jobs and image. I look forward to old(er) and new friends. See you soon, Debi

June 2009 will be a memorable event!  I am blessed with many great friendships through the years and yet, those from High School are the most dear.  Like many, I look forward to getting reacquainted with everyone!  See you soon....

The new Photo was taken @ the Gallery I work @ in Santa Fe. I am standing next to a bronze titled "Raven's Reflection".  I go by Raven now...a good story to share in June :)

I enjoyed the 2009 reunion - 40th. We will come to the next reunion in Sept 2019. My lovely wife (Mayette) and I have been married 17 years and will be there.

I live in the Dallas area (Flower Mound). I graduated from Kansas State in mechanical engineering (73) and got my MBA at Arizona State University (98).

I worked for many engineering firms while in KC and enjoyed performing in theatre in KC while advancing in years. I now work for an energy business.

The posted pictures and life stories of everyone are great and I love this website. Cheers.

Great job on the web site!  I'm sure the reunion events will be equally cool.  Looking forward to seeing everyone and hearing your stories.  We'll all have much to share, what with 40 years of experience to draw from.  And btw, the photos already posted are a real treat, so I'll post mine soon.  Thanks for making all of this happen! I enjoyed the 60th BD celebration in Mission. I wished a few more classmates could have joined in, but it was a fun group anyway.
I am keeping busy in gov't R&D in Wash DC until I retire from 2nd career in next couple years. I can then see my 5 granchildren on a more regular basis. Here is a 2003 picture with my wife when I retired from Marines. I was skinny back then!

I also have fond memories from SMN and hope to attend some of the festivities.  After some twists and turns in the road of life and almost as an afterthought I attended law school and have been employed in the profession for 30 yrs., the last 20 at the county counselors office in Olathe where I work with several county departments.  Along the way I married an SMS graduate (Ruth) and have a daughter (Sharon) who is graduating from KU in May.  Hope to retire in a couple of years and begin a new career, perhaps in a more right brain pursuit.  Will post a now photo when I find one that does me justice!
